Harry brown 

Harry browns relationship with the local gang in a way portrays gangs effect on innocent people in the society, a key theme i feel the director wants to convey in the movie. Harry brown an innocent pensioner when wanting to see his wife in the hospital has to reroute to avoid this gang in attempt to avoid trouble. The film mainly explores gang violence and its effects on the society as we are presented with a montage of the society after the gangs have been uprooted; mothers are able to walk their kids and everywhere is much more peaceful, significant to the theme of overcoming we also get a shot of Harry finally being able to walk through the path he on numerous occasions due to the gang had to avoid.

Attack the block

similarly to Harry Brown in Attack the block we are introduced with a scene of a gang of youths mugging an innocent woman of her personal possessions, though these youth are initially portrayed to be thoughtless hooligans we later realise that they are young mislead by society confused boys.

Marketing:

- provides an idea of the film to the public.

- Lets the audience now theres a film.

- Persuades the audience to come watch the film.

- In the case of the Green zone film the audience wasn’t to certain on what they were being sold which resulted in people giving negative word-of mouth -  however the film may be exceptional without the correct marketing strategy people may presume otherwise; people want to know what they are spending their money on, the film mislead the audience making them think due to the star that it was a continuation of the Bourne films.

- The hurt locker is an example of a exceptional film however the marketing strategy used to promote the film wasn’t enough to attract the audience. The film won an oscar for best film 2010 but could of made a lot more money if the promotion strategies were better.

Auteur: An auteur is a director, who over a body of work, retains creative control and uses a series of recognisable themes and stylistics that make it recognisable, e.g. Steven Spielberg, Takashi Miik.

Spike Lees exceptional filmmaking skills rose to the public eye with his breakthrough film, Do the Right Thing. From them on he has been the voice of African American Filmmakers. He continues to tackle difficult subject matter with excellent communication skills and style. His vision shows no favoritism and spares no races. His use of interviews and social commentary gives different cultures an opportunity to look honestly into the hearts, minds, and conscience of their people. He also exposes hypocrisy and lies when he demonstrates the different stereotypes that remain in today’s society. He often dives into racial tensions and exposes the day-to-day realities of different cultures, showing the raw violence and hatred that many people are too isolated to see. His films depict reality laced with slang, cultural nuance, love, sex, drugs, and violence.
